May 27th, 2009

SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer User GuideSAP NetWeaver Visual Composer is a powerful design tool that facilitates the creation of portal content for SAP Enterprise Portal 6.0 and NetWeaver ‘04, using a visual user interface rather than manually writing code. It provides sophisticated, yet simple-to-use tools for creating portal iViews that process data from back-end systems. Visual Composer operates on top of the portal, utilizing the portal’s connector-framework interfaces to allow users to access a range of data sources, including SAP and third-party enterprise systems. Special connectors are also supported, such as that used for accessing data services from Siebel systems. Because Visual Composer is a fully Web-based application, business consultants can interact with business users (content experts) to build or customize pages and iViews as needed, accessing the software from any machine.

The 60 Minute Network Security Guide

May 27th, 2009

The 60 Minute Network Security GuideDuring the last seven years the National Security Agency’s Systems and Network Attack Center has released Security Guides for operating systems, applications, and network components that operate in the larger IT network. These security guides can be found on our web site at http://www.nsa.gov/snac. Many organizations across the Department of Defense have used these documents in the development of new networks and in securing existing IT infrastructures. This Security Guide addresses security a bit differently. Instead of focusing on a single product or component it covers a wide range of network elements with the notion of providing a terse presentation of those most critical steps that should be taken to secure a network. While intentionally not as complete as the totality of our other guides, our goal is to make system owners and operators aware of key actions that are especially useful as “force multipliers” in the effort to secure their IT network.

Windows Security A Common-Sense Guide

May 27th, 2009

Windows Security A Common-Sense GuideAs this scenario illustrates, the Internet is not a friendly place. You might not have noticed, but I’ll bet that your network is being scanned for holes regularly. Many of you probably have experienced a security breach, whether you know it or not. The breach may have been as simple as someone using your FTP system to store pirated software or pornography, or as serious as someone using your systems as a gateway to hack at other people’s networks or mount a distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attack. If you have servers connected to the Internet, you can be sure that people are trying to find them.

Windows 2003 Server Basic Security September 2005

May 23rd, 2009

Windows 2003 Server Basic Security September 2005This document is intended as technical overview to cover steps involved in hardening a Windows 2003 Server. Many of the steps are described in more detail in the Windows 2003 Server Security Guide from Microsoft. This document, or even the Microsoft document, are not a substitute for system administration training and must not be confused with a system administration “How To.” While many of the steps described are technical in nature secure system administration is 80% process and only 20% technical solutions. It is always important to remember that the best technical measures can be easily disrupted by bad practices or user error for example, surfing the web as system administrator or failure to patch third party applications.
